Journal of Agricultural Sciences , 2011, DOI: 10.2298/jas1101075s
Abstract: Common carp (Cyprinus carpio) is one of the most widely cultured fish species in the world. It is predominantly cultivated in the Balkans in the semiintensive system that is based on the utilization of natural food from the fish pond and supplemental feed (cereals, pelleted and extruded feed). Currently, an intensified type of semi-intensive production is starting to be more present in Serbia, where cereals, as the most common supplemental feed, are replaced by concentrated feed that fill in the lack of proteins from carps’ natural food in periods of its decreased production. The nutritional requirements for growth, reproduction and normal physiological functions of fish are similar to other animals, but generally fish need more proteins in their diet. Due to this, the efficiency in the use and utilization of proteins is more significant for fish than for other animals. The selection of supplemental feed in semi-intensive system of fish culture depends on the natural potential of the fish pond, culturing period, fish category, price and quality of feed.

Journal of Agricultural Sciences , 2010, DOI: 10.2298/jas1003243s
Abstract: The aim of this study was to estimate heritability and genetic correlations between weight, length and height of common carp in Serbia (Cyprinus carpio L.) during 3-year growth period. The 50 families of common carp were produced in 2007 and used for the estimation of genetic parameters. The fish were measured at tagging for weight, length and height (W0, L0, H0), then during the first autumn (W1, L1, H1) and during the second autumn (W2, L2, H2). Based on univariate models heritability estimates were high for all traits (0.39, 0.34 and 0.45 for W1, L1 and H1, respectively) and also for the second production year (0.49, 0.47 and 0.44 for W2, L2 and H2, respectively). The genetic correlations were estimated using multivariate models and they were high between W1 and L1 and H1 (0.81 ± 0.06 and 0.91 ± 0.03 for L1 and H1, respectively), while between H1 and L1 were moderately correlated (0.54 ± 0.12). In the second production year genetic correlations were also high, between W2 and L2 and H2 (0.64 ± 0.09 and 0.74 ± 0.06, respectively), while between length and height they were lower (0.24 ± 0.15). Based on the current results improving growth rate of common carp through genetic selection is expected to be effective.

Markovi? Z.,DuliZorka,?ivi? Ivana,Mitrovi?-Tutund?i? Vera
Archives of Biological Sciences , 2009, DOI: 10.2298/abs0901113m
Abstract: During the period from April to October in the production season of the year 2000, seven chemical parameters of the aquatic environment were analyzed twice a month for the amount of natural food (zooplankton and bottom fauna) on pond No. 4 at the Dubica Carp Farm in Banatska Dubica (Vojvodina, Serbia). Correlation between natural food and carp growth was analyzed as well. The investigations revealed negative correlation between the amount of natural food per kilogram of ichthyomass and pH (p < 0.001, r = -0.875), electroconductivity (p = 0.0294, r = -0.673), COD (p = 0.0052, r = -0.782), total water hardness (p = 0.0186, r = -0.709), and carbonate water hardness (p = 0.0087, r = -0.758). However, statistically significant positive correlation was found between the biomass of natural food (g/kg of ichthyomass) and concentration of nitrates (p < 0.01, r = 0.841) and phosphates (p = 0.0427, r = 0.640). Concerning com-ponents of natural food (zooplankton and bottom fauna), bottom fauna biomass had a very low production and showed no statistically significant correlation (p = 0.137, r = 0.491) with total natural food biomass whereas zooplankton biomass was very significantly correlated (p<0.001, r = 0.830) with the total amount of natural food, indicating that zooplankton was the dominant component of natural food at the investigated fish pond. The daily weight gain (%) of cultured fish was greatest at the beginning of the carp farming season, i.e., in April, when it comprised a value of 2.3%. After negative growth at the end of May (-0.2%), a gradual increase of weight gain was recorded until the beginning of September. By comparing the biomass of natural food with the daily weight gain (%) of carp, it was observed that the weight gain had a trend similar to biomass of natural food with a 15 day interval. This relationship was justified by positive statistical correlation (p = 0.006, R = 0.960). As zooplankton was the major component of natural food, fish relayed on it as the main protein source showed by a significant positive correlation (p = 0.034, r = 0.907).
Monitoring water quality using zooplankton organisms as bioindicators at the Dubica fish farm, Serbia

Archives of Biological Sciences , 2006, DOI: 10.2298/abs0604245d
Abstract: The quality of water at the Dubica Fish Farm was evaluated by the saprobiological method using the Pantle-Buck saprobity index, during one carp production cycle in the year 2000. By qualitative and quantitative analysis of the zooplankton community, bioindicator species were selected for evaluation of water quality. During the whole period of research, the saprobity index indicated class II water quality, which is suitable for rearing carp in a semi-intensive system as far as natural food is concerned. There was a general trend of decrease in the saprobity index from the beginning to end of the season, its values ranging from 2.05 do 1.77, and a gradual improvement of water quality towards the end of the season. This is partly a result of natural processes (terminated degradation of introduced organic matter as well as settlement of suspended matter introduced with the supply water) and partly a consequence of the application of ichthyological, agrotechnical, and hydrotechnical measures. .
Sentenced “For ideological and political reasons”? The rehabilitation of Dragoljub “Dra a” Mihailovi in Serbia
Duli? Tomislav
Sociologija , 2012, DOI: 10.2298/soc1204625d
Abstract: The author analyses the current process pertaining to the legal rehabilitation of Dragoljub “Dra a” Mihailovi , the leader of the Yugoslav Army in the Fatherland, by first placing the process in relation to European-wide trends of coming to terms with the past. He then moves to a discussion of the Serbian law on rehabilitation, where he points to a number of contradictions and inconsistencies, particularly with regard to the issue of whether war criminals can be rehabilitated. The author then turns to a historical analysis of Mihailovi ’s wartime activities, with particular emphasis on the issues of treason and war crimes. It is the author’s main argument that Mihailovi became embroiled in various forms of collusion with the enemy, although these varied considerably over time. More importantly, however, Mihailovi violated a number of legal principles of international humanitarian law, which means that he would have been sentenced today by any court applying the highest international standards of due process. While this would make him ineligible for rehabilitation according to recent political statements and the law of 2011, complications might arise due to the fact that Mihailovi ’s case will be heard in accordance with a previous law from 2006.

Zbornik Matice Srpske za Drustvene Nauke , 2003, DOI: 10.2298/zmsdn0315267d
Abstract: The aims of the research were (1) to find out whether different value orientations, subcultural patterns, and social alienation, contribute to political involvement, attitude toward local government and perception of quality of communal life, and (2) to assess the extent and nature of differences in expressing dimensions of political involvement, value orientations, cultural patterns and social alienation among the groups of subjects formed according to gender, age, education, migratory status and ethnicity. The sample consisted of 393 nature citizens in Subotica of different gender, age, school level and nationality. Factor, regression and canonical discriminant analysis were performed in data analysis. Three dimensions of political involvement were extracted by factor analysis urban-communal involvement, general political involvement and party involvement. Regression analysis showed that there is one value orientation common to all three dimensions of political involvement that is, "social involvement and demand for preserving cultural (national) identity." Canonical discriminant analysis yielded 8 significant functions whose structures were defined at least by one dimension of political involvement but integral political involvement which encompasses readiness to participate in urban planning, was not found.

Bjelovar’s Libraries and Reading Rooms in the beginning of the 20th Century
Reni?, Zorka
- , 2007,
Abstract: Sa?etak Bjelovar’s libraries and reading rooms in the beginning of the 20th century were of particularly notable social and cultural significance. At that time there were large changes in librarianship that were connected with the so called Public Libraries Movement. The work of the libraries that functioned in the 19th century continued and their task was expanded. Apart from the promotion of national, patriotic ideas and Croatian literature, libraries are engaged in the education of the wider classes of society. This is manifested in the work of the oldest and the most significant reading room that developed from the officer’s casino. The Reading Room changed its name in 1906 to the Croatian Reading Room. In the same year due to social and political circumstances of that period, the Serbian Reading Room separated from the main reading room and began with its own work. There is also a Library of Jewish Civil Society. The foundation of public libraries in Bjelovar such as the Croatian Public Library and the Croatian Public Library “Preradovi?” was an enormous effort. It was backed by branches of the Croatian Society for Public Education, students and academically educated citizens associated in “The Croat”Academic Ferial Club. Public libraries interceded for the cultural transformation of people, and the forms of their activities were literacy courses, lectures, amusement evenings, and private and general problem discussions. In particular the function of public libraries was their cooperation with schools and similar institutions. They included the countryside population, and their members collected books by themselves (gifts, donations or other libraries stocks – duplicates). Bjelovar’s press was directly involved in the foundation of public libraries and the functioning of the other libraries and reading rooms. That is why in Bjelovar’s periodicals (Independence, Bjelovarsko-Kri?eva?ki Weekly) of this time, there were regular noted openings of new libraries and articles of their importance were being published, and the editorship was involved in the activities of book collecting and admittance of new members. Bjelovar’s libraries created under the influence of the public library movement had been functioning for a short time but their influence is significant for the entire Bjelovar librarianship and for the functioning of the library of Croatian Educational Craftsmen and Workers’ Society Golub. In the future, this library will support the education of the worker, craftsmen and merchant classes in Bjelovar
Bjelovarske ?itaonice i knji?nice po?etkom 20. stolje?a

- , 2007,
Abstract: Sa?etak Bjelovarske ?itaonice i knji?nice po?etkom 20. stolje?a imale su posebno istaknuto dru?tveno i kulturno zna?enje. Osnivanje pu?kih knji?nica u Bjelovaru, Hrvatske pu?ke knji?nice i Hrvatske pu?ke knji?nice ?Preradovi?”, masovna je akcija. Ta ?e knji?nica podupirati obrazovanje radni?koga, obrtni?koga i trgova?kog sloja u Bjelovaru
